The Political Effects
The political impact effects after the Treaty of Versailles was tremendous, especially for the Central Powers. Germany was ordered to concede territories to France, Denmark and newly formed country of Poland. Shortly after the end of World War I, the German Revolution of 1918-1919 resulted in the formation of the weak Weimar Republic, which lasted until Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party seized power in the early 1930’s. Germany was also mandated to give up its colony of German East Africa to Belgium, France, and Portugal. (Sullivan, 2016) The Austro-Hungarian Empire broke up into the independent states of Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Poland. The Ottoman Empire also broke apart. Areas like Syria and Palestine were placed under the control of France and Great Britain. The remainder of the Empire formed the country of Turkey. Unhappiness with the war also helped bring about the Russian Revolution of 1917. The Czarist Empire was toppled over by a socialist government led by Vladimir Lenin. Lenin conceded land that formed the new countries of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania. (Sullivan, 2016)
