Due to its desirable location, the Western Front served as an important part of the war. Finding success in moving a bunch of forces, compiling a sum total of twenty countries, the Allies were able to help move the German army from its occupied areas. These territories stood little chance due to the United States' entry into the war in 1917. This action, taken by then president, Woodrow Wilson, served to bring the Allies a victory. The heavily armed zone in the Western Front divided the area that was most occupied by the Germans from the rest of France. The Allies' line of defense was made up of barb wires, trenches, underground shelters, and blockhouses.
